Serey Sam and KEPO Launch Campaign to Defend Denmark and Greenland’s Sovereignty
Phnom Penh, January 18 2026 — Serey Sam, President of the Khmer Empire Peace Organization (KEPO), has announced a new international campaign to support Denmark and Greenland in protecting their sovereignty against U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial claims that America could acquire Greenland “by any means.”

Sam denounced the idea as an affront to Denmark’s people and royalty, stressing that Americans themselves would never accept foreign powers seizing even an inch of U.S. territory. “It is insulting and destabilizing,” he said, “and it contradicts President Trump’s own claims to love and promote peace.”

A Personal Debt to Denmark

Although Cambodian by birth, Sam’s connection to Denmark is deeply personal. During his years in exile, Denmark sheltered him, offering kindness and protection when he faced persecution. He has since learned to speak Danish fluently, a skill he now uses to strengthen ties with the Danish people. “Denmark gave me refuge when I had nowhere else to turn,” Sam explained. “Now it is my duty to repay that kindness by standing with them in defense of their sovereignty.”
Sam revealed that he is planning a trip to Greenland in the coming months to meet with local leaders and communities. His goal is to show solidarity and raise awareness about the importance of protecting Greenland’s autonomy from external pressures.

Drawing Parallels with Cambodia’s Border Conflict

Sam also drew a striking comparison between Trump’s Greenland ambitions and the longstanding border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia. He noted that Trump’s rhetoric had no effect on that dispute, which remains a sensitive issue rooted in sovereignty and national pride. “Now he is attempting to stir a similar conflict over Greenland,” Sam said. “This is not leadership—it is provocation. Sovereignty is not negotiable.”

KEPO’s Mission Expands Beyond Cambodia

KEPO, formally registered with Cambodia’s Interior Ministry in November 2025, represents Sam’s new path after receiving a royal pardon and dissolving his former organization, the Khmer National Liberation Front (KNLF). While KEPO’s domestic mission focuses on reconciliation and peace-building within Cambodia, Sam has made clear that its vision extends globally.

The campaign for Denmark and Greenland will involve diplomatic outreach, advocacy, and mobilization of civil society groups. KEPO aims to remind the international community that peace is built on respect for sovereignty and solidarity among nations.

“Trump’s efforts to claim Greenland are reckless and criminal,” Sam declared. “KEPO will stand firmly with Denmark and Greenland to repel Trump's desires.
